Woman killed in Cox’s Bazar gun attack, 2 held

A woman was killed and two others were injured in a gun attack in Pekua upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Shelly Akter, 36, wife of local businessman Faridul Alam.

Meanwhile, police arrested two people Mohamadul Karim amd Mufizur Rahman for their alleged involvement with the attack.

 

Quoting Mehedi Hasan, son of the deceased, Officer-in-Charge of Pekua Police Station (investigation) Kanon Sarkar said, gang members hurled brick bats and stones on the tin-shed roof of their house.

At one point of the attack, Shelly and her family members went out of the house and wanted to know the reason. At that point the miscreants opened fire on them, leaving Shelly and two others injured, he added.

Later, the injured were taken to Pekua Upazila Health Complex where doctor declared Shelly dead, he said.

The other injured were shifted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

The OC also said that the body of Shelly was sent to Cox’s Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
